The happiness. They have told us that it should not be our goal, but our path, and many times we do not realize that we are traveling precisely that road until it is late.
Importance of the happiness
As always, when we are children we want to be older because we think that by being “free” we will finally be happy. But when we grow up we realize that authentic happiness was what we had before, when there were no responsibilities. How many people have you heard saying “I’ll be happy when I retire” and retirees who miss working?
Of course there are exceptions, not everyone is the same and life can take many turns but who has not ever asked at what age is happier. Is there an exact age? According to a study by the School of Economics and Political Science in London, yes.
Happiness according to statistics
If we made a graph about happiness throughout our adult lives (between 20 and 70 years old) it would be a U-shaped curve. The two highest points correspond to the ages of 23 and 69 years and therefore, in the that we are happier (in theory).

And why these ages? Normally until the 23 we have not finished the studies yet, surely you have suffered your first loving disappointment and until then you have seen everything gray. From the 23 we see the future full of opportunities and we believe that we will be happier.
The time between 40 and 50 are usually the worst (they form the lower part of the U), something that coincides with the so-called “crisis of middle age“. And from then on it seems that everything is improving. According to the investigation and after having spoken with more than 23 thousand people, when we reach 69 we tend to see the past with better eyes. Our reality is usually better than the expectations we had (that at 40 are usually few) and we are happier with what we have achieved.
Therefore we could say that 69 is when we are definitely happier, although knowing this, we can surely relax more and advance the age a little.
